GPS Positioning problem
Where do you all get these DVDs to update your systems? Do you just get them in the mail automatically? I have an 06 IS350 that is a year old. I have recently gotten a lot of problems with the Nav, I guess it was not getting good sat signal and lately I just put new wheels/tires on it and made the problem *much* worse.
Do I just call the dealer to get my update disc, or can I download it online?

If you want to retain a copy of the original disc, crazy_vag is right, it's a good idea to make your own backup copy before bringing it in. But be aware that more than one owner has damaged the clock panel trying to get it out themselves, so if you aren't good at removing automotive trim you may decide to pass on making that backup. For me, having a GPS that locks 100% of the time is far more important than having the nav override, so I'm really not at all disappointed about no longer having the original disc.
BTW, Tangfish, yes, the dealer should take care of everything, they'll likely not give you the newest map disc (v6.1) rather your current disc with a firmware upgrade (which should fix your location problem) Curious what new wheels did you get?
Okay, thanks for the tip on the firmware upgrade. Out of curiosity, if I upgrade and make a backup of my current disc, you're saying that I can have the Satellite lock 100% of the time AND still use the override? You're right that I'm not too good with automotive trim stuff, so I probably won't do it, but just wondering.
I got 19" NAD4 Wheels, but just returned them this morning! After all of this trouble, I had to get 3mm spacers to make them fit my IS350 w/ Sport pkg. Then, they rubbed in the inner wheel wells and I finally gave up on trying to make them work (the nav problems didn't help my patience either, though I now know from you guys that this has more to do with software than my wheels alone). I now remember why I stopped messing with aftermarket mods. I thought I'd have new wheels on my car in a couple hours, turned into a 3 week mess and I'm still back on my stock rims!

tangfish: Just tell the dealer to give you back your original nav disc... Plain and simple... They have no reason to keep it as they will just throw it away... Tell them you will save them the trouble and throw it away for them
Technique, holy crap you are a serious handyman when it comes to this stuff! Can I buy you some beer to come over and hook my IS up?!

Thx again Technique!
Good luck with your wheels tangfish and keep us posted!

I'm sure there are some members in your area that could help you though... There are a good number of people on the forum who have helped out other members in their area...
With the new software, depress and hold the "INFO" button while you repeatedly flip (about 5 times) the headlight switch between the "off" and "parking light" positions; when the diagnostic menu comes up pick "navigation system" and then "GPS info".
I lock more than double the number of satellites since getting the new software. With the old software, I'd see between two and six, and only occasionally locked the four required to turn on the GPS indicator. With the new one, I see appx. eight (enough to run into the second column!), all of them locked.
So, how do I get my current disc out to copy, do I have to take the dash apart or can I just eject it somehow? Also, with Technique's, well... technique, where do you put the DVDs in to watch? I had no idea you could do this!

Slot to watch DVDs: same 6-disc changer as your CDs... Provided you have the ML option, it's a 6-disc CD/DVD changer...
Given that several people have damaged the panel, hazard button and other plastic trying to remove it, I wouldn't even attempt it unless you are experienced in removing automotive interiors.
Yep, I have the changer but from the looks of your site it seems like a pretty involved process to hack the DVD ability in. Why can't it just be an UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A SELECT START like the old Nintendos? Do either of you know an expert hacker/nice guy here in the Seattle/Bellevue area?
