Kloh7, do you have a link or jpeg that you can attach. I've searched this forum and the lexus website and I can't find any mention of side moldings for the IS. I'm a firm believer of an 'ounce of prevention' is better than a lb of cure, so I'd like to see what the BSMs look like on the IS. I know it may sacrifice the smooth body lines, but as long as it is body color matched, I'm willing to consider it. Parking in SoCal is a zoo, and I don't trust the other drivers in parking lots, unless I can find a spot b/w a Rolls and a Bentley
There is no Lexus/OEM side moldings for the IS. His dealer may be offering some 3rd party product. There was mention of a 3M film material used on the doors on the japanese Lexus site.

actually there are both sides to this. but i have to agree with you, not sure what it is but i think it'll look better with side moldings. of course, it depends on how the moldings look too. too bad no one actually has pictures of their IS with moldings. i'll have to decide if and when my IS comes in if i want to get moldings or not.

but there are so many SUV's now that i think most of the dents and dings will come above the molding anyway. so in that sense it might be useless.

and they DO help with dings.. cause with my old IS300, all the dings were on my moldings.. none on my car

i have a ding on my is250 already.

Yes... park away from people. But that doesn't even help sometimes, as my car got hit by a drunk driver in the parking lot of a hospital, and the stupid drunk didn't even notice!
The bottom line is, you can reduce the likelihood of a door ding by parking further away from people who just don't give a crap about your much nicer car - but there's always a chance. I think the door guards would be kinda ugly on our car, but that's just me.

Door guard don't guarantee you won't get dinged...only if the offending vehical hits them, not above or below. Also, you get hit hard enought and you end up with a bent guard and door.

No dings after 6 months, and I park in a crowded parking garage daily. Knock on the wood trim...

i think no matter how careful you are if you get hit you get hit. i've park away from cars before and then when i come back out of the store, even if the parking lot is empty, somehow i manage to get one idiot park right next to me. amazing.

Everyone should have vertical doors.

Like others, I too park away from others, preferably near a curb, or the end spot in a row, and never on a sloped parking lot where someone who is not paying attention is likely to allow a door to fling into my car, or worse, where a runaway shopping cart can inflict major damage. I also avoid parking near big suvs or trucks, or next to 2-door cars because the longer doors are more likely to reach my car, even when people are trying to be careful. At work, we joke that people with nice cars (bmw, lexus audi) try to park next to one another, because you know they are not likely to be morons, and don't have to worry about them banging their car doors into your car.

When I have to park somewhere where there's a reasonable chance that my car would get dinged, I take my magnetic backed, color keyed, dingdefender guards and place them on the doors. So far no problems--the website is below. My wife sort of shakes her head when I do this, but I bet she'll want me to order her a set when she orders her new 525 or 530xi in the next couple of months. Four months old and 100% ding free.

I agree, I think mouldings would cut that chunky look of the L-Finesse designed cars.

Or sliding doors like those found on vans. I think Scion is planning that for the t2B (the futuristic xB)...
