I've just driven 1000 miles last weekend, so speak from personal experience.

It was such a wonderful drive. Gives you plenty of time to enjoy and learn your car inside and out. The ride is so comfortable and you'll enjoy every minute of it.

As long as you're not pressed for time, definitely drive. Just hope you can get along with your girlfriend for all those hours in the car.

How funny, I was thinking this same thought the other day! I live in southern Cali and am contemplating driving up to northern Cali to visit a friend but I wasn't too sure I wanna put all of those miles on my new baby. Total mileage round trip would be approx 800 miles. While my road trip would take me at least 6 hrs (assuming no traffic), my flight would take me only 1 hour. I'll prob save about $100 from driving vs. flying because if I drove, it'll prob cost me 2 gas tanks ($100+ for gas) and if I flew, it'd be $200 for a RT ticket. I've never taken my car long distance and I've never driven this far to anywhere by myself so this would indeed be a journey.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I say you take a road trip and enjoy your new ride and some quality time with your gf. Hopefully you have a clear bra so you don't have to worry about paint chips from rocks flying into your car.
Maybe when you come back, you can tell us how wonderful your road trip was and that'd convince me to take my own road trip.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hehe, that's funny, in the midwest, Southwest Airlines will take you those distances for $29, $39, and $49 maybe up to $79....roundtrip lol.

You can't fly ANYWHERE in 1 hour. By the time you leave your place, get to the airport, delays, land, etc. A 1 hour flight, is now 4 hours, MINIMUM!

Yeah, you couldn't even fly from LAX to John Wayne in an hour.

Wow, I'm surprised at all of the responses. My gf is no problem on the trip. I am really also wondering how the 2IS will perform under duress. I'm sure it will be great... it is after all, a lexus, but would i have roadside assistance coverage, etc? My trip is in July, and if nothing else, I will be enjoying this new wonderful ride.

Thanks 4 all the help so far...

The car will amaze you even more after the drive. Driving in the city, you don't get to fully appreciate how comfortable and smooth the ride is. You don't get to appreciate the acceleration. You don't get to appreciate the quality and refinement, etc...

Lastly, you'll learn that the car can get 450 miles on a tank of gas!

I think I've been convinced to drive... I mean, for the most part, it seems to be the way to go. The only major downside I can see is I'll be 1600 closer to no warranty. It seems like it will be cheaper and more fun!

Is that true??? Ive only gone by the meter saying 337 when I fill up...

And the last part... should I make this a poll??! LOL

Yes, on my drive. First tank I got 450 miles on the tank. Second fill up was 401 miles. I was shocked how much difference it really makes on highway versus city driving.

Drive! I just dorve 10 hrs round trip this weekend to see my brother it was a great trip, so many people heads were turning to check out the car. I drove 80+ on the way their and the gas mileage wasn't so great 300 or so on a tank 23 mpg. So on the way back i thought i would try something different and do 72-75 mph and boy did that make a difference got about 27.8 mpg well over 400 on a tank of gas. Car handled and drove wonderfully.

I went to Vegas from SF. It was a nice experience. Driver there. And plus, I am afraid of flying.

I bought my 2IS new in Denver and drove it back to Houston (about 1100 miles). I had a great time getting to know the new car, plus I got the "break-in" period over in about 12 hours! I say drive it.
