I'm thinking of ordering the body side molding from the 1st gen IS300 and having it painted to match by my body shop friend.
I'm very paranoid some idiot will ding me and at least I'll have a little protection.
anyone else thinking of doing the same thing?

I guess good idea for protection, but bad idea for looks. I sell cars at a toyota dealership and a few people here and there want the same thing. When its all said and done with, its about a 50/50 like/dislike. It takes away from the smooths lines that the new lexus's and toyotas have. My .02

Even if its dinged above or below the molding, I think the BSM would still help to take your eyes away from the ding.

Well, my personal opinion. Side moldings can only help so much. Most doors would hit above the moldings. It also won't help you from getting the paint chipped off.
I know they are optional on G35 coupe's, and I think it REALLY takes away from the smooth lines of the G35. Everytime I see one, I just ponder the question in my head "Why?"
Don't do it. Look at cars with door moldings, they still have dings.
