On a side note: Does the non-NAV new IS come with a touch screen? I'm SOOOOO Glad I was FORCED into buying the NAV system, if non-NAV doesn't come with touchscreen.
Nope, it doesn't....sounds like you made the right decision.
We bought our 1998 GS with NAV back in 2004. So at that time, it was a 6 year old NAV and it did make us want to purchase the car. The NAV works just fine, and it only has the 1999 maps in it.
Like others said, the audio and climate controls look great on the touch screen, and the nav gets me where I want to go and back home, so I'm very pleased that my car came with it. If I had identical GS's to choose from, one with NAV and one without, I would pay a little more for the one with NAV (not $3k, but some amount).
Hope that helps, and I hope you enjoy your new car.
There are still people who can't quite afford this car and still want to get in it so every penny counts for them....that's too bad because the Nav is great, if you can afford it I guess. Nav does increase your resale value, the only person who doesn't think so is the person who doesn't have it. If you went to the used car lot and you picked out a car with Nav, come back tomorrow to drive away in it, get in the car with no Nav and you asked the dealer "what happened to my Nav?" He says "no problem instead we got you this one here without it, no difference in price...you're ok with this right?" Wrong.
I would hardly call Nav just like a computer. A computer you have choices, which techology, which features, how fast, etc. If you want a particular car, you have no choice what Nav comes with it. Most people don't install their own aftermarket Nav....besides the old Navs will get you there, just like the new ones.
Buying the NAV wil put a dent in your wallet. $60 will make a $740 payment $800. You all are some high rollers!
Ways to make at extra $60 a month:
--Stop going to Starbucks.
--Stop donating money to your church.
--Taking cold showers.
--Drinking white zinfandel instead of cabernet.
--Wear your clothes inside out to do laundry half as often.
--Steal.
--Sell your blood on eBay.
--Apply for food stamps.
You couldn't be more wrong! Have you bothered using KBB? Having Nav does make a difference on the resale value.
Actually, he's right. I remember vividly reading somewhere that the residuals on an IS with and without NAV were the same whether or not it had NAV. By residuals I mean the value of the car that is calculated at the end of the lease. NAV made NO difference in the residual value of a car.

%-wise maybe not, but $-wise, nav absolutely has higher residual.
