If it's just a car to you, why post here??? Aren't sites like this for car enthusiasts??? It doesn't matter what it is, I've been raised to take care of anything I purchase or invest in.

Funny parking story...I had parked my SGM 350 in a parking spot adjacent to a handicapped spot (ever so slightly hanging over into the HC spot, of course!) at Sam's Club. As I was walking out of the store back to the car, I see two guys (late teens or early 20's) pushing a LONG line of shopping carts they had just gathered from the lot to bring them back to the store. I was a bit concerned how close they were coming to my car with those carts, but as I'm walking up, I overhear the following exchange when they see my car:

Cart Guy #1 "Dude, it's an IS350!!"
Cart Guy #2 "What??"
Cart Guy # 1 "RIght there! An IS350!!"
Cart Guy #2 "Holy S#@T, you're right! Get these carts away from it!"

I almost lost it and started cracking up right there, but held it together long enough to get in the car and take off!

Then maybe you should just leave it parked in your garage, and buff it with a diaper. Geez. Cars are meant to be taken out and ejoyed.

I do this every day with my ES300. And I'm only going to get worse when I get my IS350.

I very much agree. I am pretty **** about my car too but I desperately try not to let it rule my life. "parking is driving me crazy" and "I'm soooo scared parking my car at the mall, department stores, grocery stores." are pretty strong statements of how stressful parking is for you.

Take a step back. Yes we are all car enthusiasts but at the end of the day, it is only a car. Paint and dings can be fixed. The stress, however, will take a toll on you and make you grow old before your time. That, unfortunately, cannot be fixed. You can really only control your own actions and not others'. Why stress over something beyond your control?

If this thread venting helps relieve that stress, post away.

Agreed. I did not want it to be an issue and still do not. Let's leave it at that and move on. Please do not turn this thread into a discussion of the image. Posts will be deleted if this gets OT.

Thanks.

This situation is human nature, people tend to be "cattle" and when they see a car parked somewhere they will park right next to you even though there are other open spots.
I notice same pattern while shopping. I'll walk up to a empty clothes rack and within seconds other people gravitate to the same rack of clothes. lol Take notice of this wherever you go, it's totally true.
And if you want to be over protective about your car that's your right to be so. You just spent a lot of money for a Lexus. Not everyone can afford to drop that kind of cash. But do remember that you will have many many cars in your lifetime (the last study I got from a marketing research was 10 cars) so don't let it hamper your driving enjoyment.

I've had other new cars before, but I think that because I have such "rare" car at the moment (in my area) it draws more attention (good and bad). I could just be paranoid though I guess....don't want to get dings on it before I even have a chance to wash it myself. I just seem to care more about the Lex than my Audi.

also depends where u live. hell ive accidently left my car unlocked on the northside. didnt get stolen. now if u lived on the southside. different story my car would be in a garage. as for malls highly unlikly its going to get stolen. besides u cant start the car with out the key(imobilizer) it will just crank and no start

The one time I decide to park my car close up at the grocery store because I was only going to take a few minutes, I get screwed over. I come right out to see a shopping cart parked rubed against my front bumper on the passenger corner. I remove the shopping car and found three scratches and one piece of paint missing. White IS350 with a black paint chip...pissed me off...

OMG i know that my people (chinese, im chinese too) have that stereotype of not being able to drive (though not true) doesn't mean they have to create a stereotype that they cant park their shopping carts too...DAMIT! my truck was also hit by some chinese lady when she was trying to park in the same grocery store...

LOL...don't worry, you're not betraying your "people". When I had my first Lexus I took my mom to the Korean grocery store and I waited in my car. A old Korean woman loaded up her car next to me and bumped my car with her door. I was sitting inside with windows rolled up and I heard it. I rolled down my window, stick my head out, started to say something and in the middle of my first sentence she flashed me a dirty look and drove off. Didn't even say sorry or bowed. Nothing. Haha..so rude. There was a little ding which I was able to get out.

LOL. I NEVER park anywhere close to anyone else at a Korean restaurant or store. Not trying to imply anything as I am half, but I have noticed old time Koreans care less if they slam into another's door. They simply do not think it's a big thing.
