Interior Dimensions?
Has anyone seen interior dimensions for the new IS? I found what I think is trunk capacity (378 liter = 13.3 cf, which is more than the new GS) on the Japanese Lexus website but didn't see anything that looked like interior dimensions. Please post if you find any.
Thanks
Thanks
The Edmunds Full Test of the IS350 lists the headroom (f/r) at 39/36.9 in, legroom at 43.9/30.6 in, and trunk at 13.0 cf. Very disappointed with rearseat room - less than new 3-series. Looks like they used the increase in length to increase front legroom only.
From a Lexus presentation on the new IS my dealer shared with me (note many dimensions are slightly smaller than last year):
37.2 Headroom front w/moonroof (37.8 for 2005 IS 300)
36.7 Headroom rear w/moonroof (37.3)
43.9 Legroom front (42.7)
30.6 Legroom rear (30.2)
54.4 Shoulder room front (52.6)
52.7 Shoulder room rear (53.5)
88.3 EPA passenger volume (89.2)
13.0 Trunk volume (10.1)
37.2 Headroom front w/moonroof (37.8 for 2005 IS 300)
36.7 Headroom rear w/moonroof (37.3)
43.9 Legroom front (42.7)
30.6 Legroom rear (30.2)
54.4 Shoulder room front (52.6)
52.7 Shoulder room rear (53.5)
88.3 EPA passenger volume (89.2)
13.0 Trunk volume (10.1)

Looks to me like an in-person comparison is in order. At the Taste of Lexus event, if not earlier. This is make or break for me---back seat room...and I think Edmunds said something about 'if you're over 5 feet, you won't like it.'
Then again, I like the Toyota Prius interior...and found the new 3-series interior adequate.

"Back seat room is definitely more than the 3 series." How do you screw this subjective measurement up? I mean really, it's a simple test. Sit in the driver's seat and get it adjusted for your comfortable driving position. Then get out of the driver's seat and get in the passenger seat behind you. See how much legroom you have and compare it to the other vehicles you have driven lately.
I'm 6'2"ish. Here's the breakdown:
Current IS300 - can barely get into the backseat (but I can fit but it looks really funny)
Volvo V60R - can't even get into the backseat (surprising, and has ruled the car out for me)
E46 330i - I can fit in the back seat but have to splay my legs to the side of the drivers seat and wouldn't want to sit in the back for too long.
E90 330 - definitely more leg room than the E46 330, still need to splay my legs slightly to get comfortable, but not too bad. Headroom is a little tight too. And for some reason, BMW forgot to include enough clearance under the drivers seat to fit your feet. Weird, but overall, not too bad.
Subaru Legacy GT - pretty roomy back there, headroom/footroom not a problem.
New IS350 - ??? one review says more room than the 3 series (E46 or E90???) than another says that it won't really fit anyone over 5 feet tall. I don't get this. This is not a subjective measurement. You either fit or you don't.
According to the info posted by Lenscap (thanks by the way):
the rear legroom has only grown by .4 inch. However, the front legroom has grown by 1.2 inches. Now, the IS300 had enough legroom already, as I was easily able to get the front seat far enough back to fit my 6'2" frame. Hell, I didn't even need to slide the seat back as far as it would go to get comfortable. So, hopefully, that will mean that the extra 1.2 inches in the new IS will be GAINED for me in the back seat, thus increasing rear leg room by more like 1.6-2.0 inches. I sure hope so, as rear seat room is a make or break decision for me.
Sorry for the ridiulously long post, but I'm kind of venting. Seeing some of these reviews has started to dull my excitement of getting a new IS350. I knew that the overall fun to drive factor would not be equal to a new 330 (don't flame me here, but go drive a 330i sport package over a variety of roads and you will see for yourself), but I was hoping that it would at least be close. Of course I'll reserve my judgement until I actually get to drive the car myself, but I really didn't want to drop 42-44K on a 330 and take the chance that it would be a piece of crap (my dads '02 330i has not had ONE problem in 39 months, yet my sister's '04 525 may actually be replaced by BMW usa due to the number of problems it has had (must have been built on a Friday).
And now the rear seat may be barely any bigger than the old car. Oh no!
