Why, what's wrong with it? Did it run out of oil?

I haven't done any research on 250 diff's but I'm pretty sure 06 to 12 is interchangeable. Manual cars and AWD have different ratios so you need one from an AWD. It shouldn't be hard to find a used one.

Get under the car and read the tag on the bottom. It's combo of alphanumeric 3 digits. Used that as you search LKQ and ebay...

I'd do axles and leave the pinion alone. The 350 has left and right directional seals. Not sure about 250.

In my build thread there are tips for removing/installing diff, as well as tools needed, and how to install and remove seals.

Pickup around post #380 using the link in my signature. Ask if you have further questions. Diff can be out in a couple hours without pulling the suspension apart.

the manual states Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 for the rear diff. I see people use 75w90, is that ok?

Yes. I run this that weight on my IS250 AWD for last 80k miles front and rear differentials.

Royal Purple or Mobil LS synthetic gear oil. Diffs haven't exploded yet.
