Default Fuel return line

Hey everyone, I’m new to the forums. Looking to learn and hopefully contribute.

Im currently working on my 06 is250. I’m finding a few items that are concerning me. There are fuel lines running along the passenger side wall, somewhat near the exhaust manifold. The vapor feed line has completely dry rotted and will need replacing. The fuel return line hose doesn’t appear to have any cracks, but the line it attaches to is chipping. It seems to be a metal line (magnet sticks) with a plastic coating. The coating is what appears to be breaking off.

I’m attaching a pic below. Right below the hose clamp, you can see the coating of the line chipping.

My concern is that this cracking and chipping will continue up where the return hose mates with the coated line, resulting in a fuel leak. Given that this is all right next to the manifold, I’m concerned.

I have not yet found another post describing this problem or what is typically done here. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions here. Thanks!

I took some more pics to help explain what I think the problem is. I removed the rubber fuel hose from the fuel vapor line. You can see that there is a metal line with some form of coating surrounding it. Everything looks to be fine here.

I tried taking a better pic of the fuel return line. I didn't want to take the rubber fuel hose off this line cuz I'm worried the coating might fall apart further and leak next time I start the car. You can clearly see that the coating on the vapor line is coming apart.

These lines are barbed so they won't leak past the barbed ridge unless it's also compromised in some way. You can always get new fuel rated rubber lines to replace since the OEM are generally already hardened at higher milage.
As for coating them just clean them up, and spray some rust inhibitor on the metal line.

The fuel vapor rubber line should be around 9mm ID or so. It's always best to check for the correct measurement.

Edit well it looks like the vapor line near the shock tower is not barbed.

I would like to know how to remedy this issue as well. Whenever I drive my is250 2008, it smells like fuel…..
