Hey Club,

I am thinking about getting a 02 is300 for my wife. Only problem is its a manual and she cant drive stick. I know auto trans for these cars are pretty easy to find since everyone swaps auto to manual.
Does anyone know how difficult it would be to swap manual to auto? I plan to keep the manual set up because this car is eventually going to get built. I just want to see if its possible to run it as an auto for awhile.

I would think it would be fairly simple, just need to mount the gear levers somewhere and thats it? Not sure if the ECU would need to be swapped as well or what..

Any input would be appreciated!

if you really need to, just trade someone for an auto. I guarantee you will have people lining up to trade you.

It wouldn't be a permanent swap, just for a while till the new IS200T is cheaper in the used market. Then Im doing a gte swap on the is300.

who will actually be doing the swap? you or a mechanic? even mechanics will make some small mistakes. it's better off to get an auto and sell it later on to buy a manual again. less headaches.

I ended up not getting it. Dude wanted way to much for it and wouldnt go down on the price when it needed an immediate $1200 of tires and breaks. I decided to just wait a few months and get her a 2014 IS350 F sport after I get my ISF paid off..

But if I did the swap, I would do the work myself.

She wants to learn, but it wouldnt be practical for her daily to be stick since she sits in traffic a few hours a day. Beer, your from CA. Ever sit on the 91 in socal? its hell.
