How can you tell if the car has LSD or not? Can you tell visually or not? Is there some kind of button on the console or some LED in the dash? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

You can always look on the sticker when you first bought your car it should say under features LSD (if its not litsed that most likely you dont have it). Well it gives more power to the outter tire or the tire that has more traction you can feel that tire pulling you around. So when you punch it around a turn (with the TRAC off) the outside tire you will be able to feel pulling. i hope this helps you!

 

Usually, cars that are RWD have LSD. For the IS300, garantee LSD or maybe it was the Altezza (IS200 or the Turbo version). I am pretty sure the IS300 has LSD.

You can tell visually, but you need to jack the car all the way up. Look at the rear and you should see the rear Axle. There should be a bulky, circular container that the rear wheel is connecting to.

If you look at the last two pic, you should see a silver box right next to the muffler, it is the only silver box there. That is the LSD container.

 

One thing IS300 is for sure better then 3-Series (except M3)... GOT LSD!!

 

the fool proof way to tell is by looking at the back of the differential housing, if it does have
a limited slip differential there will be a white sticker with the words "LSD OIL ONLY"

all lexus vehicles with an LSD have this sticker.

 

Actually...

Only the LX470 has this sticker. Both the RX300 (4wd, with optional LSD rear diff) and the IS300 with LSD don't have those stickers. Reason being they both use the Torsen LSD. Those units don't require any special additive. The GX470 now has a LSD center diff as well.
