GPS availability in 2003
I'm looking at getting an IS 300 with a Nav system but all local dealers say it's hardly ever chosen and less than 1% of these cars have them. Any ideas why? Are they bad systems? Do people prefer aftermarket GPSs? If I chose an IS with GPS it's a 4 month wait.
Thanks for any input.

I waited 5 months for my 2003 Nav 5-speed. I ordered during '02-'03 tooling changeout so I had an extra long wait. People are just getting into Nav and the IS300 base price hardly warrants a $2000 increase. Plus, if we go to war, none of it may work when our fine-tuned military starts transmitting/using only crypto-equipped gps signals. Ooooh that would suck.
That said, I can't conceive of owning a car without NAV after this one. Note: Lexus Nav is funny about what window tint you use and it does weird things in heavy fog. It is such a great system, and is so fast considering the processor power involved here. Anyway, double thumbs-up for the Lexus nav sytem.
FYI:
I saw an ad in CAR magazinee today for a Panasonic GPS DVD Nav system that looked just as classy, costs less, and can be mounted anywhere.

sorry to say but yes tint affects. it's not the color but it's the metallic compound inside. getting limo tint just means it's dark, that's ok. but if you get titanium or quantum tint they all contain metallic content to make the tint a bit reflective, and that's what affecting the nav. there are plenty of proofs of these out there

Your very right. I see it at least once a week at work. The GS and IS models have the gps antena mounted under the rear window in the package tray (where the rear speakers are). Doesn't matter how dark the tint, but how much metal.

Well, i have a 03 with Navi. I ordered it in June of 02, and got ot in Oct. Fully loaded. There are Navi's that are out there not to many but i'm sure if u ask the dealership to do a search for a nivi in the area they can do it and swap cars.
