5 spd issue
when i throw it into first, second or sometimes third gear, a dull, deep thumping sound is heard....happens half the time...very disturbing....similar to when you try to select the gear and not have the clutch depressed all the way...
is this normal??? after i go into the gear, drop out, and immediately go back into it, it doesn't make the sound and feels so much smoother....
help me out guys...i'm bringing it back on monday....

that's like saying, "everytime you go over a bump or depression in the road, you'll hear a thump..." RIDICULOUS... so i guess toyota "built" it into the car...
YEAH RIGHT!!!! they better fix it!!! i'm gonna start writing letters to organizations...

Ummm, why bother asking the question, you seem to already know the answer, or at least have it set in your mind what you want the answer o be. Go fight with Lexus about it and don't bother helpful people with your uselessness
come on i guess i wasnt specific enough that noise will become less in time try running to lexus and see what they have to say. try the search has been discussed before i guarentee you that the same noise was there on the test drive it is a characteristic of the 5 speed.come on lets not to flame the newbie so much he just doesn't know his car.it's not his fault.enjoy your lexus

sorry guys, i wasn't trying to flame anyone...i was upset to the fact that this problem is supposedly normal for this car...a Lexus is supposed to be quiet and smooth....if it wasn't then they should've labeled it a toyota is300 or alteeza for the US market...
I've checked around and that thump shouldn't be there. Do you actually think toyota built in that noise??? NO WAY!!!
they made a mistake and now they should fix it....
IS200 3SGTE: "When I put it into first, second or third it makes a loud thumping sound"
Mechanic: "Well, then, don't put it into those gears...find a steep incline and start off in 4th or 5th"
IS200 3SGTE: "OK, that makes sense..."

actually the IS is a toyota and Lexus was originally not going to bring it, that is why the IS has a diff interior than the rest of the line. After a while they decided they would try it and it turned out to be great. the next gen IS will be up there with the high lexus standard.
if you have that "thump" problem (not an LSD thump), I suggest you call Lexus (800-25-LEXUS) and complain about it...the more people that call, the faster they'll resolve the issue...I was told by the dealer mechanic that Lexus is aware of the "problem" and they are working on it. He was waiting for more info from them.
I know that everyone here has been saying that it's "normal" but if you had a choice of eliminating that sound or keeping it, I'm sure everyone would want to get rid of it...
BTW, mine is getting worse. I now have the problem in 4th gear as well.
Please call them...thanks.
