Default 2001 Lexus IS300

Hey Everyone,

I've been lurking around this forum for a while now and I've finally decided to post something.

I've been hearing from people that the 01 IS300 was the worst year and that concerns me since I do own an 01. So why was it the worst year of that make?

Thanks all!

the only downfall i have with my 01 is no armrest but mines only up to 33000 miles too. i think most just complain because the newer 1s have more stuff lol

The 2001 had the most bugs. There was a TSB for rough shifting on 01's, so hopefully that was taken care of. I've heard that 01's were prone to sensors in the ignition key hole failing. IIRC, this kept the immobilizer from shutting down. I think there were issues with the tumblers too. If you lose your keys, you will need a new ECU and new keys. Unlike 02-05, it is generally held that the 01 ECU can't be reflashed...but I have read some posts arguing this. As mentioned, 01's didn't come with the armrest, and the CD player had lots of problems. If you care, MT IS300's weren't produced until 2002.

One positive is that it had the most durable dash. 02-05's are prone to "melting" if you use certain interior dressings on them--especially Armor all.

Love my 01, haven't had any issues with it except the hole in the side of the motor, but that wasn't the motors fault - that was mine - too much boost, a little too lean... nothing a GTE bottom end won't fix...

I just picked up an 01 today and the only problem the owner had was the cd player.
