start with searching other peoples cars and finding one you like, ask what he did to it and what he bought etc..

for the camber youll have to get an adjustable camber kit, and to lower it you can cut springs(free), ebay springs (74$ shipped) megan racing (140) or some tien for like 175$

on the wheels just get a 18x7 on from and 18x9 on the rear should give you a staggered look, and a lot of the good wheels sites will explain about the offset

You can run 18x10's all the way around if you play your cards right.
There are some with minimal fender work that have 11's in the rear.
How low do you plan on going?
Also, vsxx's are Work wheels, not Volks.

Well if you have a narrow tire on wide wheels the rim is going to sstick out farther than the tire. Friend has a mk3 supra with 18x9.5 all around and 245 front and 275 rear

The rears are flush the front rims stick out past the tire

No point in getting wide wheels when you run a 225 or 245. That's really small tires

I'm a mustang Guy, I have run 275 on 8" wheels. My 05 gt had fr500 18x8 and 18x9 with 255 and 295 Tires. Looked perfect

Match your wheel with your Tires you want. And suspension with total tire /wheel diameter

It's all personal preference.
Stance and stretch isn't for everyone.
A lot of people, like yourself are more into the functionality aspect.
And that's cool too.
Me personally? No.
I ran a 225/40 on 10" wide wheels for a desired look.
In the end, it's your car, your build.
Make it the way you like it.
