Need boost - opinions?
Hey guys. Just recently inherited my sister's 04 IS300 for my 2nd DD.
First off it's over 100k (not sure exact #), hasn't been properly maintained (oil changes, services, etc) for some time, and been in a few accidents (needs body work). I figured it'd be my new project and planning on boosting it. Question is - should I do anything w/ the engine (rebuilt, cleaned, etc) or should i just bolt on a kit and call it a day?

For a proper rebuild you're looking at a lot of cheese.
If you're not taking it apart yourself, you're gonna be paying a shop a lot of money to take the block apart down to a bare block. Then you'll need every port remachined - bored, honed, etc.
Then you'll need new internals, don't use internals 100K old that haven't had the greatest maintenance. You're looking at rods, bearings, pistons, rings, re-balanced crank, main seals and bearings, an entire gasket kit, head gasket, waterpump, timing belt, oil pump...Then headwork, you may be able to reuse the valves, springs, retainers and all that ish.
Then you'll need your basic fluids, oil, coolant, etc...
And I know there are other things here and there that I missed. Once this is all done, you'll need to either buy a turbo kit or piece on together, then once that's installed, tuning will come into play. But before you throw on a kit and start boosting, you'll probably want to break in the motor N/A for a thousand or so miles before it starts taking another beating.

Best advice I've seen! I advocate this not just with n/a cars but also with boosted cars as well. I broke my Supra in bone stock(turbo). After 3k miles I took all the stock stuff off and put on the big stuff!
