hey I thought you'd all be interested (but not suprised) that I finally go the opportunity to race my friends 1995 Maxima 5 speed.
He had bragged time and time again how it was much quicker than the IS. Well we were on a deserted road the other night and did several passes from a 20mph, a 40mph and a 60 mph crack.
In all instances the IS just tore up the Maxima. I mean it was no contest it jumped him by 1/2 a car length or more and then just pulled away from him. By the time my speedometer showed 110mph I was at least 4 maybe 5 car lengths in front of him.
After, we pulled over and began to talk, I thought this would have shut him up once and for all but he just went on to tell me that the only reason I beat him is that his car needed a tune up.
And since we didn't race from a dead stop that he would have beat me in that contest.
Sometimes you just can't win, but I know I proved my point to him even if he wouldn't admit it!

His 1995 Maxima is a 1995 (?) I think!
It has 190 HP but is lighter than the IS by a couple hundred lbs.
He sort of does know how to shift as his other car is a 68 AMX 390 4 speed that is pretty fast and he has owned for over 20 years (see we're both old farts 50+).
The 25 HP difference and my car being (almost) new was too much to overcome for the Maxima. A tune up may have made his car run better but I don't think it would have changed who was in front at the end.
I posted on this board about 2 or 3 months ago (maybe longer ago) about this situation and most of the feedback I got was that the IS was faster and quicker than the 1995 Maxima 5 speed. I know the newer ones 2000-2002 are supposed to be quicker but my friend claims he can beat all but the 2002 Maxima's with his. Also looking back at some of the specs in say Car & Driver and other car magazines it does show the Maxima as having slightly quicker 1/4 mile times and 0-60mph times. But these tests are usually done without brake torquing or powershifting, just accelerating by flooring the gas and in the case of a manual not doing any high reving which might do clutch damage off the line, so the times the magazines get may be different then you get depending on how much you want to punish your car.
By the way both of these cars are completly stock.
