what worried me the most is that the car was deemed totalled in two years from new. This means the damage was considerable. If front collision, I doubt airbags did not deploy. Also, there are things you won't notice on a drive, but if the frame is slightly bent, for instance, you will never be able to align the car correctly, and it will eat through front tires.

Here in Australia they have just passed a new law in NSW not allowing cars back on the road once they have been deemed totalled. The crash test lab down here have done various crash tests on repaired cars with small impacts and the outcome if that repaired car was to have another low speed accident. Pretty scary results. I will never by a salvage car.

i have a 2001 that looks identical in damage to the pic above. the bumper support isn't bent though. it was hit just above it. anyways, i'm wondering if i should just part it out. i don't have the money to fix it right now. i'm guess-temeting about $2500-3k to fix completely. i've found most of the parts cheap on ebay or online. but it did break the ecu. i found them on ebay for 2-250.00 and a buddy at toyota can program the new ecu to my keys, but i could use some cash right now. a guy offered me $1350.00 but it seems like i could part it out for more. oh, and it has a clean title. what do you guys think?

Oh true story, I didn't even look under the hood.
And the bumper support is bent back a lot too.

You would be crazy to sell IS300 for $1350
(unless you want to sell it to me for that much)

My advice, keep it... Save up and fix it.
Assuming you have another car to drive..

And you are right, you could probably part it out for $4,000 if not more.
Ask the guy on here who posts with the name "Kraven", he parted out his old IS300, i think it took him a while but he did it.
