Na, it's just a rubberized overcoating so it won't affect structural integrity. (As the lawyers note will read in court)

Default IS 300 Lexus DashBoard Melting and Sticky

I am the original owner of a 2003 IS 300 and I have the same issue with Dashboard. I contacted Lexus Corp. and they out to the Sterling McCall Lexus to inspect my vehicle. Intially the dealer wanted 1600.00 to replace it and the District Manger for Lexus offer 500.00 to replace it. There is a defect in the material they use for the dashboard and I did not use any Armor Oil nor any other chemical on the dashboard. Lexus knows the material used for the dashboard was defective and time frame for the customer to notice it. What we have found it is either close to the end of warranty or warranty has lapsed.
I have contact NTHSA (Recalls/file a complaint), Texas Attorney General Office (Filed a Complaint), Federal Trade Commission (file a complaint), BBB and Dealer Enforcement. Now I am filing a class action Lawsuit, anyone that would like to participate are to file with the same agencies. Afterward you will be included in the class-action lawsuit.

**** is about to hit the fan if this gets going. My car is at the shop so I can't check, but very curious now since mine is a 02, and being black, doesn't help.

I have the same problem as well, not the original owner. Can I still be included?

Id be down for getting in on a class action suit. Not the original owner but this melting dash nonsense sucks.
I did notice that "candycane" only has one post and hasn't posted back in this thread since but its worth a shot.
Count me in, if this ever comes to fruition.

Lords the problem of the dashboard sticky has plagued me too for some time.
I asked the cost of a new dashboard UNBEARABLE!
I asked the owner of a car wash the cost to solve the problem 300 EURO!
I thought the use of a degreaser and put so pasienza to remove all that sticky substance from the dashboard to bring my car to the state of a car of the early eighties!

I found this product STARDUST!

http://cgi.ebay.it/STICKY-DASHBOARD-...tem2a14790413#

Today my car and as I had bought with half an hour of work.

sincerely
