what major problems concerning old age IS?
i'm looking into buying an 02 or 03 IS w/ milage around 80-90k, i was wondering what problems are there that i should be aware of when buying a high milage car as such. what should i look forward to replacing if i were to buy one. and what concern should i look into when test driving it. i would a 5spd, but auto would do too... so if you know anyone selling one at good price, lmk. thanks in advance with any info to help out. and what price would be average for the year and milage.
80k is not high mileage on any Lexus. The IS has really not been out long enough to be an "older" Lexus. 5 yrs is nothing. Since you want an 03, you are only looking at a 2 yr old car, going on 3. Man this is absolutely nothing in the Lexus world.
We have 1992-93 SC guy's with the I6 engine running 250k+ miles and going strong. (as you are aware of).... but these cars are too new to have the issues found in the 15 yr old Sc's.
You'll just need to prepare for the 100k maintenance schedule. Primarily normal wear and tear items. All the rubber on the chassis, shocks etc.... average maintenance.

i think it should be said that a WELL maintained 80k mile engine is no problem. that's true and it will continue to go a long long way. but if an engine is not done well, that could be a problem
when you test drive, check for vibration, idling problem, any warning lights, etc...
and i would definitely get a mechanic to fully check all the fluids and other parts too
