Default "Humpless" hood? Question

Hey all,

I was looking at some aftermarket hoods and was wondering if anyone has ever done a 'hump' delete on the hood. I realize that sounds ridiculous as a sentence lol.
Is the hump in the middle of the hood necessary for clearance or temperature? How hard would it be to take a stock hood, cut the hump out, weld in a smooth piece of metal, sand everything down, and then paint it so it looks flush?

I don't necessarily hate the 'hump' but I do think the car would look cleaner if the hood was straight across. Just wondering if there's an aftermarket hood that already does this, or if anyone's even bothered trying this visual mod.

Thanks for any info!

I've never seen this done before at all. However, when I had a carbon fiber hood, there ended up being scrapes and holes underneath from where the engine components would rub on the hood. So, I imagine that the hump is necessary, however I never looked at the underside skeleton to see if it humps. So you can look at the underside of the hood. If it's flat, then the top can probably be flattened too.
