Had bad gas mileage, rough idle sometimes. Thought a spark plug or coil in ICE .Kinda shocked when the local non-Dealer Lexus shop checked codes. Came up a bad cell in main Battery. Seems like my problem is bad cell causing low mileage. Tech cleared it, said come back in a week, he will check again.
Called Lexus Escondido. They didn't agree. Asked me if it was OBD1 code.?? I had OBD1 in a 1992 SC400. They know one bad cell can cause this. I feel the Dealer B.S. Game just activated. Today,(Saturday) a warning on dash flashed Hybrid Battery Low. No debate, took it in, got a loaner. Service Tech said, he has seen this only 10 times in 8 years, even then he's surprised I made it in without needing a tow. Now I'll see!
Anyone go thru this? Never saw a Hybrid Battery. Maybe stupid question, but can they just add water and say it is repaired?

8-28-22 Dealer says there is no problem? After going to a Hybrid battery rebuilding shop in San Diego I was told, 'Yes there is a problem . You have a weak cell. Before you spend money or try to deal with Lexus, don't hurry. Hybrid Battery low writing on dash is just a reminder you are using too much power. If no red light shows up nothing to do. Run it and keep an eye on it.' I do not like it but Good enough!

 

The ECU can’t detect bad cell. Only bad blocks.

So I’m not sure what they are talking about?

There is not warning light for low battery. Low battery is not abnormal.

There is a check engine light. Hybrid malfunctions are shown in the multi information display.

I saw a 'Hybrid Battery Low' written below warning light area, above gear selector. This was two days after independent shop showed me bad cell code

Hybrid is new to me. Every one is surprised with a Lexus. Including a friend who has 220,000 mi on a 2016 Avalon Hybrid. but it is happening to me.

 

How long have you owned the car ?

The battery should still be under warranty. So you get a brand new one!

 

Just got car back. NO PROBLEMS FOUND. COULD NOT DUPLICATE COMPLAINT
Great car to start, but follow up service a joke. maybe a new 2023 ES300h

 

Sounds like they just got rid of the code to get out of replacing your battery. Why did you accept it back?
