Key not Detected - DashCam Wifi interference
Hi Champions, RX450h 2012 I had this occur in my vehicle and felt others could benefit and add to my experience. I installed a front and rear dash cam, the rear is hard wired. The cam is configured to come on with ignition. All went well. BUT.... at times the car would complain KEY NOT DETECTED IN VEHICLE. After swapping keyfob batteries a few times I came to the view that it was something else. No issue at start up, but when stopping to drop someone off the error would re-appear. I figure that the car 'looks' for the key at these times. if a key was left in the vehicle after engine off it was always detected.
So the dash cam creates a mini wifi hotspot, and I beleive it is on a similar frequency to the keys. I think this transmitter is swamping / jamming the key fob reciever in the vehilce. It takes a moment to set up and turns off with the engine, which explains why there were usually no issues at the start of the trip, and would always detect a key inside on lockup. Fault 100% dissapeared with the Dash Cam powered off. Dash Cam is a KAISER BAAS KB R60.

Strange. The key fob frequency is actually quite a bit far off from WiFi frequencies. Fob operates at 315Mhz or 433 Mhz depending on region. Wifi operates at 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz depending on device capabilities. But it certainly wouldn't be the first time one of those little radio chips starting spewing interference well outside its proper operating range.
Reviving a very old thread in hopes it may help someone else with the same issue, but I recently installed a Viofo a229 pro dashcam and started having Key Not Detected issues, mainly when my rear driver's side door would be opened or closed. After 5-10 seconds it would shut off, but was always happening with the rear doors. I had the cam plugged into the cigarette lighter port and noticed when i would unplug the dashcam, I would never have the issue. Plug it back in, and back to the Key Not Detected issues with the rear doors.
I had read that using the hardwiring kit that gets wired directly to the fuse box should fix this issue. I bought the Viofo hardwire kit for about $20 and am happy to say I've never had the issue again after installing.
