Our 350h Premium is scheduled to arrive in the Greenville, SC dealer in a few days. It has the 20" tires option which I am not happy about. My experience and understanding is that 18" tires give a smoother ride than 20" and ride quality is of great importance to us. Does anyone have experience with the 20" tires and can comment on their ride quality compared to smaller sized tires? Being run flat tires makes the sidewall even stiffer which is an added negative from my perspective related to smoothness and quietness.
I don’t have an answer for you. But I’m currently running on a 19 inch runflat tires BMW for 11 years now, I’ve tried several different brands and all of them have a harsh ride. This is why for my next vehicle it must have the adaptive suspension which is why I plan on going for the F sport 350 with the adaptive suspension which I’m sure well help with 20 inch run flats.
I am exploring getting a 2022 nx and have researched the nx 18 and 20 inch wheels. I too am wary of 20 inch wheels for a couple reasons.
I prefer to have 18 inch wheels so it is more forgiving in the northeast winter roads. When the run flats wear out, I would replace them with regular Michelins tires. At this time there are more choices for 18 inch tires too.
the run flats will wear out quicker as well. Honestly I think Lexus IS making a mistake by not going with regular tires and a spare.
maybe with time more choices will be available for the 20 inch.

I understand the lower profile and shorter sidewalls on the 20 inches are going to give a stiffer firmer ride. But in your case on the BMW did you always replace the tires with other run-flat tires? My understanding is that run-flat tires, being run-flat, are much stiffer to start with which would be a major factor of a harsh ride. I also think, your adaptive F-sport suspension on the NX is going to give you a firmer ride, but a more controlled ride. I'm just not sure it is not going to be less harsh. I think I will be pleased with the NX 20-inch wheels; one of my performance cars (Ford Focus RS) has two settings stiff and track and anything is better than that, but it handles very well.
When my tires wear out, this is what I plan to get at present ( there may be more and better options in the future) : Lexus NX -tire replacement 1 of 2 Lexus NX tire replacement 2 of 2

20" tires are more expensive... I'm planning to have 18" winter tires with a repair kit in the trunk for the winter. Hopefully that will allow the 20" run flats to last a bit longer. We won't know until we get to test drive them and figure out next steps...
The LS500h also runs on run-flat tires and I don't feel them being harsh at all... hoping it will be the same.

No I’ve always replaced them with run flats out of convenience. I know non run flats will provide a much better ride. I also am running on 40 in front and 35 in rear so that’s little cushion on my sport suspension. It’s really the rear that is the harshness.
I believe the NX 20” have a little more sidewall cushion than my current ride.
