Default Bad Front Differential, PLS Advise me on this one

All,

The wining on my 2011 LS 600HL with 50K mile has finally got bad enough for me to take it to the dealer. We don't have Lexus here in Pensacola FL so I took it to the Toyota dealership. I just got off the phone with the service guy and he telling me the wining is coming from the Front Differential, most likely a bad gear according to his tech.

This where things get crazy because he's saying you have to separate the body of the car from the frame or something like that in order to get to the Front Differential. He's stating 40 hour in labor with an estimate of $11K. I have a CNA Warranty but I don't think they are going to bite off on this one.

Has anyone had experience with a bad Front Differential on a LS 600 HL and is the Toyota tech correct in the mount of effect to fix this problem or should I get my car out of there and take it to a Lexus dealer. I must state that I've had problems with inflated estimate with this dealership in the past but I wanted to give them another chance since it's been years since I took one my cars to them.

I have Mechanical Plus+ CNA warranty which is the highest CNA warranty.

I hope someone can respond soon because I have to talk to the Toyota folks tomorrow(28 Jul 21) once they have more facts and I want have a better understand of what they are talking about. The service guy seems like he's new to the world of car mechanics. Is explanation of my cars problem is very hard to follow.

Semper Fi and Thank you

Andre

I never heard about issues with front diff but I got a spare one for $70 with 70K on it for my LS460 (I believe, the part is shared) as I thought it was going out (it was not the case). The manufacture manual calls for removal of the engine and transmission. But, you should be able to remove the front subframe to get access to the diff. However, LS600 can be a little different due to the hybrid system. Do you have a break down of the quote? Have you tried replacing the fluid in the front diff?

I believe that is their most comprehensive one. Carefully review the exclusions. I'd be most surprised if your problem is not covered.
