Default Transmission vs differential fluid change for 2010 HiHy

Posted this on the Toyotanation HiHy forum but did not get any response - hence trying my luck here...- since the RX400h is mechanically the same as my vehicle.

I recently purchased this vehicle in January and had 160 miles. The Toyota Dealer I bought it from had done a comprehensive service including timing belt, water pump, tensioner, coolant, both front and rear brakes, transmission service (mentions world standard).

What the service records do not mention, but I happened to read in the manual is to check and replace front and rear differential fluid as needed. But there are no specifications given - neither regarding the fluid to use nor how much is needed for each.

I am quite positive that these have been replaced on the vehicle so far and would like to get that done next oil change coming up in a month or so.

Can someone please throw some light on this here.

Hare Krishna!

2010 Highlander would be closer to the 3rd gen RX 450h than the 2nd gen 400h. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-and-rear.html

Thanks smassey321 for pointing that out. The HiHy still had the 3.3 L engine in 2010 and went to the 3.5 Litre engine in 2011.

Do you still feel that my vehicle is closer to the RX450h?

No response, huh... Guess cuz I quit that forum..

You do not have regular transfer case and differential in hybrid, like you do in conventional Highlander. No driveshaft, no mechanical transfer case.
Your rear wheel drive is purely electric/hybrid type operation, it's a mini PSD in the rear. hence, you do only this: ATF change in PSD, which, btw, Toyota says is lifetime, so your dealer basically took your money and, ATF change in rear drive. 2.3 or 2.4L I believe. 4.2-4.4 in the front. It is a very easy DIY job, there are several writeups at TN, mine included. Go to FAQs.
I am not sure about the latest models, I think, they mated engine with 6 speed automatic transmission now... don't really care to research, i'm done with hybrids.
That said, you can easily DIY rear transmission in yours. Or, find someone with 10mm hex wrench and basic hand skill and let him do it. Only thing is, as it's drain and fill job, to drip out the filler hole, vehicle has to be quit level for proper refill.
