Default E and 1/2 E on consumption Bar chart display

I understand the mpg bars, but I also see E and 1/2 E (cut off E) on the bars.

Do they reflect that the region happened during that interval?

I could be wrong but I've always thought they referred to periods when the car was in EV mode. They certainly seem to pop up more often when in traffic.

Each "E" represents 50Wh of energy that was recovered through the regenerative braking system during the minute that the bar represents.

That makes sense and explains why it doesn't occur as much when on the open road.
