Hi guys. I have a ES300h but have always eyed the GS450h. Recently, I've come across a few GS450h that does not have the bamboo trim on the steering wheel. I always thought all GS-hybrids had the bamboo trim. Is the bamboo on the steering wheel an added option?

Hi azipod, the bamboo steering wheel was only made for 2013-2014 models. Lexus had outsourced the entire process to a company to a wood specialist company in Nankoku, Japan called "Miroku Techo Wood" who had developed & created the bamboo steering wheel. Unfortunately, Lexus discontinued the bamboo steering wheel in 2015. My guesses are because the cost were significant and the GS hybrid wasn't selling very much (it's basically special order now). I can assure you that the bamboo steering wheel is a piece of beauty and feels great. It adds a unique dimension to the car.


It's part of the luxury package, which not all GS hybrids came with. As if the GS450h isn't hard to find as it is, a loaded one will be even more difficult! Sorry for the bad news.

Wow. Didn't realize how unique that steering wheel is. Makes me appreciate the car even more however the previous owner dented the top of the wheel (assuming with a finger ring?)
