Default 2016 es300h Power trunk

The power trunk opens from the button on the dash and the key remote but to close it I have to press the button at the trunk, can you confirm this or is my car the only one

No, your power trunk works just as it was designed to work - the inside button will only open the trunk, not close it. And I do not believe I have ever seen a car or SUV that would allow closing from the inside switch. I can only assume and probably agree that doing so could create some risk as well as legal issues. I have sometimes considered installing a switch that would allow closing the trunk from inside the car but have always thought better of the idea.

The power hatch on my RX can open and close using the open/close switch on the dash. I'm surprised it isn't the same on the ES.

The inside button on my wife's 2014 venza and her 2015 NX300H close the rear door, so that's why I just don't understand why the es300h is not allowed to?

Maybe just different lawyers advising the design team.

i've always just assumed that it's a safety issue, but i wondered that as well when I got my 2013. mb the suv hatches are considered differently, since it is quite easy to to use the rearview mirror/turn around and see if anything/anyone is in the way of the big open door, but with the power trunk, you really can't see what's behind it, nor communicate easily with someone if they are in the way when you are closed in the cabin.

I don't think there were any worries of lawsuits over the power trunk closing on someone. It isn't like it slams down when you press the button on the trunk. It comes down slowly and will stop if anything is in the way.

I don't understand why it can't be closed with at least the key fob. I remember renting a 2010, or '11 Lincoln that allowed it. I would have assumed the issue would have been resolved by now.
