Default LS600hL Black Opal Mica

Been in the market for a 600 for a while now. Mostly been looking at the obsidian ones but just came across one in black opal mica. Didnt even know this color existed. From what quick research ive done apparently it is a single stage color with no clear coat or pearl and has a blue/purple tint in the sun. Any LS owners here have any experience with black opal mica vs obsidian?

Owned both, first was black opal second and current one is black obsidian. Black opal is a tricky color because it look very different depending on the lighting. I recall at first when I bought it I thought it was plain black, as in the picture I saw. Under natural light it look pretty dark/black, but under direct light in the garage it looked like a really dark purple, and outside on cloudy days it was more like blue marine. Not sure if I use the term correctly, but under strong and direct light there are much more "Flake" in the paint than obsidian which could explain the many variation. I always owned black car and I recall at first I had almost regret because I thought I was buying a black car, but the color grew on me, and I think it fits the hybrid pretty well. And the fact that the color was so dynamic was pretty cool in itself, and also being so unique compared to anything else. That being said, I don't like less my current obsidian one (especially since the teleios that came with it is such a good match with black). And the black really make the tri-projector beam stand out when lighted during day (if that's your thing, lol). In the end it's really a matter of taste and personal preference, both color fit the car pretty well.

That is a beautiful color!

Vansibel described the different hues well, and I've had to do a double take when one of these has pulled up next to me.

just could stop looking at it, lol

Black opal and obsidian are beautiful dark colors that have the glossy wet look. My 460 is obsidian with chrome wheels and I have it waxed once a month to keep that incredible shine.

A beautiful color indeed! I had found one when I was looking, but unfortunately it didn't have many of the desirable options (like radar cruise). It does have a clear coat, though.

Thanks for all the great info here. I'm taking a drive to check it out tomorrow. Hopefully the sun will poke through the clouds enough to really see all the color
