Default Water pump

Took my 2006 RX400h, 70000 mi, in for module recall & they called me in to show me a pink buildup which they said is a water pump weepage. I saw a pretty good buildup. They want $1200 to change pump, including a new timing belt. Does this sound legitimate & and is it a fair Price?

It maybe leaking from intake gasket, which is a common issue for RX gasoline, but can't say whether it's common for Hybrids. if it is, it should cost you way less than $1,200. $1,200 from a dealer is very cheap, but expensive for an independent.

I'm getting my 04 RX330 waterpump and timing belt changed (with two idle pulleys) and I got a quote for $900 from my mechanic. All Lexus Parts.

When I had my recall done, they told me the same thing (water pump is leaking). I keep the car in my garage and know the smell of anti-freeze. I knew it was not leaking. I told him I did not want to have this work done and he never mentioned it again. When I got home I checked, which is hard to do, but I have a mirror on a swivel. It has now been another year and the water pump is still fine. I do not plan on ever going back to this dealer
