I'd better try my luck at the casinos, then. When we bought our 2007 RX400h, we paid $2000 to extend the cpo warranty from 3 years to 6. Just over 3 years later, we broke even with a $2200 repair to the skid control ECU, and last month the new transaxle we needed would have cost $5500.

When the warranty on my Cadillac XLR was about to run out, I bought a 6-year full-coverage service contract through Costco, and a year later I've already had a repair that cost more than half the premium.

I guess I'm just lucky... So lucky that we'll be replacing the RX just before the warranty extension expires.

You have beat the odds, but most people will not get their money's worth for extended warranties in general.
