09 GS 450h - 123k Miles
Been digging around for quite some time on this forum and the UK variant, have answered most of my questions but would love some feedback from owners.
I am in the final stages of working out a deal for an '09 GS450h. Has full dealer service history until 2 years ago, when it was traded in and sold to the current owner, he has only put ~1000 miles on the car in those two years.
Car has had battery replaced by Lexus dealer in '22 and 1 shock replaced along with all regular maintenance prior to second owner. My big question is; right before the first owner traded in at the Lexus dealership, they claimed loss of power while driving and dealer found a stored P2797-865 code. Dealership wasn't able to replicate the code nor has the current owner reported a loss of power or warning lights.
I'm getting the car inspected this week at a private mechanic, dealer wants $400 to look at the car and I've spent that for two other cars that sellers have sold out from under me. Have any of you dealt with this code and can confirm that the naughty bearings are the problem as a few reports claim?
Additionally, am I opening a can of worms buying this car? It has been essentially dealer maintained its whole life, current owner barely drove it (75 year old man) and it has a recent battery replacement. I also bought an OBD2 scan tool and am planning on running the Dr. Prius hybrid battery health check. Seller is asking just under $10k.
