Default Official GS450H Hybrid Discussion

The Hybrid, which will be revealed at the upcoming Frankfurt auto show, is likely to retain the powertrain of the 2011 GS 450h, and Lexus released a teaser of photo a model bearing that name. The F-Sport will feature the same engine as the regular GS 350 but with 19-inch wheels, sticky tires, bigger brakes, variable-rate steering, and an adaptive suspension.

Lexus officials indicated the V-8 model will be dropped from the lineup, with the hybrid serving as its de facto replacement. While that might cause much lament among enthusiasts, it's not all bad. Chief engineer Yoshihiko Kanamori says the 2013 GS 450h hybrid will outperform the current gen V-8-powered GS 460. For comparison's sake, the last eight-cylinder GS we tested went from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. Lexus is currently mum on fuel economy ratings, other than saying they're improved from the old model's 19/26 mpg city/highway EPA rating.

I agree. Current GS450h is already faster than GS460 (at least in 0 - 60)

Why not put the LS600L's 5.0 V8 hybrid in the GS. Need at least 400+hp to compete with E550 and 550i.

i would rather get 30MPG from 350hp than 20MPG from 400hp engine.

they already said it dropped +150lbs compared to old GS450h... with some extra modifications, it should be quite a bit quicker than 3GS 450h.

that's still not saying much, until they can say (& prove) that it can perform like a V8 with at least 400+hp , I think we'll just have to wait and see ......

No it's not, they just claim it is. Find me a Car and Driver or Road and Track test which has a faster 0-60 time for the GS450H than one from the same magazine for the GS460. If you can't find it, then the GS450h is no faster.

All tests I have read show both at 5.5 seconds.

That would be a waste of time. The current V8 can output 380hp as seen in the LS460. Plus it's lighter, so if they offer a GS450H with 380hp, that would be slower than the GS460 they are not building.

So you guys really think Lexus will produce a 400+hp GS Hybrid?

No we don't know, but it needs to be in order to support the claim that the new GS-h is a legit V8 GS replacement to compete in performance ...

400 is a little on the wishful side. I think we are looking at 28mpg with 360ish hp

german media seem to think that its mpg will be better than M35h (27/32) and that hp will be 360-380.

however they can often be wrong as well. I think priority for them is mpg, and not upping the horsepower because it was already quick and with shaving extra weight, it will be quicker too.
