Side Steps or Running Boards
I have a 2010 RX450h and a wife who is only about 5'2". She is complaining justifiably about the difficulty she is having in climbing into the right front seat. I note that various aftermarket sellers are selling both side steps and running boards. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations to offer? (Other than the obvious one of trading in my wife on a taller model)
I had sidesteps on my earlier Acura MDX and they served the purpose. However, I do think that running boards give more surface area for stepping upon and there is no gap between the step and frame as there are with sidesteps. As far as looks, that is subjective to each owner's opinion.
oscqc, the door sill is higher on the 3rd gen, making it harder for undertall people
Even I hit it getting in and I'm a 5'8" blonde. Careful there, billy! Previous gens were not much of a problem. I can see where running boards would help. Don't trade in the wife

I put a set of ATS running boards on my 2007 RX350. My Mom uses them. And I only use them to wipe down the roof.
Not sure if they make them for a 3rd Gen.

Billy: Getting the new lease on the blonde model will probably be the easier part, getting out of the old lease early will cost you a pretty penny....
Can you even put running boards on a 2010+? i thought they extended the doors down to cover the entire side of the SUV. so adding running boards would need to be pretty low and seriously reduce the limited clearance you have already.

Thanks for the comments and the photo. I contacted one aftermarket supplier in California and it did not want to ship to Canada. I ended up ordering running boards from my Lexus dealer. He estimated 4-6 weeks to get them and quoted a cost of approximately Cdn $850 plus the inevitable tax. The things you do to keep a spouse happy....

Glad you found running boards. Be sure to post pictures when you get them installed.
Hi,
Looks very nice on your car. I just got mine RX450h and want to add the same board as yours. Could you please let me know where you got yours. I like the front and rear bar too.
Thanks

Wyau01 – Actually he owns thee of the same white car. That’s hilarious.
Zfc6e - I bought the side step (Nerf-$200) and front bar ($225) from a shop on Queens Blvd here in NY Phone # 718-565-1960. The tow hitch ($160) and rear bar ($65) on ebay. Wood trim from carid.com. I did all of the install myself and I’m not a mechanic.
