How many Luxury SUV's do you know of that have the performance of the RX 450h and can average around 30 mpg hwy OR city ??? I don't remember what the numbers are but I can tell you from an owners standpoint, the passing stats for a near 5000 lb SUV are terrific.
My ML63 could out accelerate most cars on the road, but I only got 10-13mpg. So I traded it in after 4yrs for the 450h. I'm trying to hyper mile the 450 at every opportunity but I'll be damned if I'll ever see 30mpg average. I'm probably getting 22-23mpg in Eco mode, car is still under 3000 miles, even so, I'm not sure if it'll improve 8mpg after break in period and warmer weather

can the ML350 beat an RX? the 3.5 in that thing makes 268hp if im not mistaken and is just as heavy. Also the regular RX (and hybrid) has more horsepower than the q5 3.2 at just about the same rpm. I guess we would have to look at horsepower per ton, but I wouldnt be surprised if the 0-60 times on the Lexus website are conservative.

Also even if they were accurate, 7.1 versus 7.4 is so negligible to the naked eye that it would depend on the driver more than the car

Going to have variation in the times based on who did it, temps, tires, conditions, etc. On the www.zeroto60times.com website, it shows the ML350 at 7.0, the MDX at 7.1, the Audi Q5 3.2 at 6.6, the RX 350 at 6.4, and the RX 450h at 7.0. Based on these values, the RX 350 and Audi Q5 3.2 should feel a hair faster than the others. As far as I am concerned, my RX 450h is plenty fast for my basic needs.

Our 450h fwd is faster than our previous non-hybrid RXs, gets a lot better mpg, and is a lot slower than my modded Mustang GT 5-speed. And it doesn't do as well as our Ody for hauling large dogs in very large crates. In fact, one crate won't even fit inside with the rear seats folded.

Gotta luv it; this discussion is about as useful as asking a Ferrari owner how well his vehicle tows a boat.

Only had the car for a week and a half (2011 RX450h) and have just over 400 miles. already seeing ~24mpg with normal driving - 60/40 city/hwy.

It's pretty simplistic for me, "push pedal, car go fast" and I wonder why the ECO light is never on.

You're giving the 450h a bad name

Mileage is just a side effect of the 450h

As far as the CVT goes, I think someone may have heard the beautiful sound the intake manifold and valve train at full song. My CVT makes no decernable noise at all. If it did, I'd be to the dealer right away.

^^ The term cvt drone is not referring to the cvt making noise tself. The term was coined to refer to unpleasant engine noise at even moderate throttle that is caused by the lack of shifting into the next gear. This is characteristic of all hybrids and cars with cvt trannies.

It is a pretty unpleasant noise to me, and usually starts to get bad when you enter the white part of the hybrid meter

Yes it's not the noise of the CVT, rather what the CVT does with the engine, making the engine just float at a constant drone, not a nice sound IMO.
