good to know. !!!! Im about to get a 2006 400h w about 55-70k on the odo and put another 100k mile to it.

I drive 22K miles a year on a V8 that get 15mpg right now. Hybrid tech should get me close to 2X the return on my fuel cost.

im in california, Does the 10yr /150k miles warranty apply to 2006 rx400h?

10year/150,000 warranty is for California and a number of other states.

Exclamation Update

I'm now just under 145,000 miles and the first thing broke... it was the KEY. Must have turned it too hard one too many times because the housing cracked. It still works and the buttons still work on it, but I'm going to have to get a new key. LOL, of all things I guess I'm glad that's it!

I noticed a turning in my key sometimes when I started the vehicle. So when I was for service I asked and was told that a new shell can be bought for $35 if warranty did not cover it. I lucked out they warrantied my key and promptly carved and programmed a new one.

Wow, I would stay loyal to them if I were you. My replacement key cost $129! That's $99 for the housing and then the rest to re-print the key. I'm no where near warranty status, so that was a harsh blow to my pocket book

$129 sounds great. My standard, fobless Subaru key costs $70 to print. Add another $70 on that because I need a new remote too. Woof. My key is so worn down that they can't copy it....yet the car continues to start. Interesting....

Keep us up to date on the 400h. I think you are the winner for the most miles.

$35 repair is for a new key housing, they reuse the metal part and the guts.
$150 key is brand new inside and out.

@ Ifint

You cannot inspect the timing belt and water pump during an oil change because they are hidden in the engine. The belt and pump and not that expensive. It just requires several hours of labor.

Unhappy Sad day

As of Thursday, I no longer own the Rx400H. After 146,447 miles the budget could no longer support the routine maintenance. The good news is... there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car when I sold it (except a few door dings on the side guards).

Someone is going to go to auction this weekend and find a steal of a deal! That was a wonderful car and I'm going to miss her a lot. I must have been the first person who cried when they sold their car- I think it scared the dealer a little bit ;-)

I'm not going to say what I got into, because it doesn't belong on the Lexus forums, but let's just say it is MUCH smaller and cheaper to maintain.

Have fun everyone!!!!

Hi, I just took my 2006 Rx400h to Tustin Lexus for an oil change and declined the 90,000 mile service. The service writer told me that my water pump was leaking and showed me a picture of my water pump with a pink foamy substance on it. He quoted me $2100.00 to replace the water pump and timing belt. Is the water pump visible during a routine oil change? Is it common for one to fail at 90,000 miles? Is the replacement cost reasonable? Thanks for your input

That price is rediculous....If it is the engine water pump and timing belt, go to Toyota or independent and get it done for $800 or less....The parts for original equipment on Ebay or less than $250 and include the waterpump, timing belt, idler bearings and seals....If you were to order the parts and take them to Toyota, I was quoted $600 for the labor....
here is the kit I recommend

Default timing belt /water pump

2006 RX 400h at 96000 miles, average mpg is 25 , the best ever mpg 29.
Took to Lexus dealer to check front driver seat slipping on track ..
they found 2 bolts missing, estimate $100 to repair.Bolts have to be ordered.
Also the warnings "check VSC system", "check Hybrid system" came on and they are checking the recall notice to see if warnings are related to recall issues.
Then recommended the timing belt ,water pump replacement for $1100.

Default update on warning lights

Corporate Lexus has determined that my warning lights are related to the recall and will make repairs on my 2006 RX 400h with 96000 miles. All repairs are covered
Charge to replace two bolts on front seat $99.95 :-(

Is that $99.95 installed? If so, maybe you can just buy the bolts and do it yourself to save some money? I bet the bolts are less than $10 for the pair.

Default too late

YES, I was charged the LEXUS one hour labor rate to install two missing bolts on the
seat motor gear.
