I have a 2010 RX450h with all the options available in Canada on order and expect delivery on January 27, 2010. I asked the dealer today if I could get side bumper strips installed to protect the doors when the vehicle is in parking lots and he did not know. He promised to look into it. It seems that they were standard on the RX 330 until 2009.
Does anyone have any comments? I suppose I could always go to a body shop for them.
I've heard that the dealer can install these (parts made for the 3rd gen). Just be aware that they will be mounted using adhesive (some sort of automotive two sided tape?), whereas the previous generation were actually clipped to the vehicle. For this same reason, I'm not sure that the 2nd gen will work on the 3rd gen unless they remove the clips and use adhesive. If that's the case, you might as well get the proper parts that were made for the 3rd gen.
oscqc, the dealer can install the side door molding like rcy said. Mine is charging between $500-600. I didn't look at it close up to see how it was mounted because I wasn't interested in it.
Where will you mount them on the vehicle so they will protect you car? With all the different types and styles of vehicles on the road it will be impossible to protect you paint with just a rail. Most of the rails put on these or any other vehicle are put there to break up the bland style of a vehicle.
