Fuel Type for RX 400h

I have been using only regular gasoline in my 400h since i bought it. and at 28600miles is running just fine with regular scheduled dealer visits. I added a trailer hitch and pull my 22.5' center console boat around every now and then too. I am getting ready for my first set of tires and will be getting the Nitto 850 s or the Nitto NT420's. I like the number 420 and they look cooler so that is what I will get if they are available.

I have the new 450h that say's run on premium 91 octane. I can't quite come to terms with .30 more per gallon if it isn't really necessary. At Shell, Premium is listed as 93 Octaine and the mid grade say's 91. I used to burn 87 in the 03 RX300 and it ran great. So if the Lexus manual say's premium 91 , do they really mean 93?
With nearly 800 miles, overall average is a skosh above 30.

I recent took my car to a new mechanic, a nice old Japanese man who specializes in Toyota & Lexus, to get the a/c checked out. He says I should always get 91-octane name-brand gas and inflate my tires to 40 psi. (5 psi above forum members recommendation). I followed his advice two weeks ago and went from 18 to 24mpg in city stop-and-go traffic (80% of my driving) and 30 on open freeway. Just FYI.

I managed to use 87 octane with no knocking (lexus rx400h)
I had knocking issue using 87 octanes on my Lexus rx400h ( try to save some money). I switched from costco, exon, mobil 1 but the knocking did not go away. I cleaned MAF, throttle. I replaced old vacuum and intake hoses with no help either. Then, finally, I cleaned the PCV valve and knocking went away. The engine now starts better, acceleration becomes smoother. If you have the same knocking issue, try to clean the PCV.
I cleaned PCV by submerging it with engine degreaser for about 10' ( The MAF and brake cleaner are not strong enough to remove the carbon deposits). After 10', wiggle pcv valve to get all the dirt inside out, then do it again with clean water until no more dirt comes out. Final steps are to blow some air ( use your mouth, if don't have any blower) to get it dry a bit, then spray it with MAF or brake cleaner.
note: The PCV valve is cheap. If you dont want to clean, just buy a new one.
