Default Senior Moment

The other night, I got home late (10:30) after two hour drive. Had to get groceries out of trunk and stuff, and for some reason, just unhooked my seatbelt to get out, without shutting car off. Engine wasn’t running of course and since lights stay on for a couple of minutes, I didn’t think twice about it. You guessed it, left car on overnight until neighbor texted me in morning saying lights were on. I charged up 12V battery and everything seems fine. Hybrid battery was at two bars though, so I believe the engine was keeping everything charged. Good job Lexus. Though I guess I would rather Lexus build some safety system in that shuts the car off completely after say 20 minutes in park if nobody presses the brake, or something like that. Guess I am getting old now.

Newer Lexi have an automatic shut off when the car is running and there are no control inputs.
Saw a warning dialog box pop up on the dash, thought it said it would shut off in 60 minutes.

Good to know Lexus updated with that feature. I really don’t know how it happened. I think it was so dark, I backed in, opened the garage door, popped the trunk open, and just took the seatbelt off to get out. Guess if it was a Tesla or another EV, maybe an app would notify you the car is in the “On” mode with the automatic lights still turned on. I think it was because I took the seatbelt off, the seat went back. No matter, all is well. Just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone else ever did this or does it.

Other than when I park the car in my garage - when I park the car out somewhere I always lock the car, and my side mirrors automatically fold which is my (look back) quick visual indication the car is turned Off and the doors are locked.

I also have the Lexus Enform app that notifies me a few minutes after exiting the car about the status of my car if I don't lock the car, which is the case when I park the car in my garage and purposely leave the car unlocked.

I can also use the Lexus Enform app to remote-start the car from literally anywhere that has cellular service, which is nice to warm-up the car on a cold day or cool it down on a hot day about 10 minutes before getting to the car when leaving a restaurant or event.

Below is a screenshot off my smartphone of my Lexus Enform app taken 30 minutes ago . The 'Status' has a red dot indicating my car is currently not locked in my garage. If I press 'Status' it will tell me what doors are closed and locked or unlocked, and if the windows are closed. Pressing 'Start' will start the car's engine for the HVAC system to operate for 10 minutes, then the car will automatically turn Off. Opening the driver's door (by me grabbing the handle via the Smart Key fob system) before the 10 minutes has expired will automatically turn Off the car... When the car is remote-started from the Lexus Enform app the car remains locked and secure...

Thanks BC! Guess that is why a 2013 is a little outdated. I just have to not have a senior moment when getting out of car.
