2024 RX 350h - Switch from S to D mode while driving?

2024 RX 350h - Switch from S to D mode while driving?
Have a 2024 RX 350h and 2021 RX 450h before that.
In the 2024, you have to be in D to be able to pull the gear shifter back to enter S mode. I'm not quite sure how to go back to D while driving. I know pulling down again into S doesn't get you back into D. I think I tried pushing left and down to go into D and it didn't work? Not 100% sure I tried this but I'm nervous to try again in case I accidentally shift into R, given the small movements that are required with this shift lever. Also not sure I should be going through N (which is what pulling left does) before pulling down to get to D. Presumably the car is smart enough not to let me do anything that will damage it, but I'd rather not risk it. The manual doesn't seem to describe how to do this.
Obviously you can stop, pull left and down to get into D, but do you really have to stop to do this? In the 2021 you could just slap the gear shifter between D and S at will while driving without having to go through N.

Not a direct answer, but I'm pretty sure that our '23 500h requires the vehicle to be stopped before accessing the M (manual) mode.
When we first got the car and I wanted to try the Manual mode out, it required a bit of flubbering around to select.
