The setup was easy and it works flawlessly via the phone app and great for the price. However I am concerned after watching this review by State of Charge. It doesn't resume charging automatically after any power interruption and one has to reinitiate the process. How do the other brands (Emporia or ChargePoint) behave after power interruption? I'll appreciate if you can share your experience. Thanks

I have the same charger, but not bothered by or explored the power interruption/resumption angle, since its not something that happens in my area very often. I haven't tried the other ones, tried another even cheaper one before instead. I simply wanted the scheduling function through the app, to take advantage of the lower electricity rates after midnight.

However, I have observed that they respond to customer issues/feedback through the app - you might want to try that and ask them about implementing this feature with a f/w update. Topdon is a large maker of automotive parts, so at least they have some support infrastructure/staff.

 

Thanks for the reply. While it's true that I can still drive it in the HV mode, but that'll be major issue in the future, if I get any pure EV (instead of PHEV)

 

I am not an EV charging expert but have read that the lack of restart after a power failure is due to safety. I could see safety being a concern if power is not stable for example, not just power outage, but surges, voltage fluctuations, etc. there could be an issue that may possibly damage the car although I am sure there are some circuit protections built in.

If the vehicle stopped charging in the middle of the night, you would think at the least you could configure it to send a message to your phone letting you know.
