New fuel pump = lower MPG's....
I had my recalled fuel pump replaced a month ago and my gas mileage has plummeted. When I dropped it off I was averaging almost 35 mpg; I've run 2 tanks of gas thru it since then and it's dropped to 26 mpgs. It can't be a coincidence right??!! I wanted to get some feedback or advice before calling the dealership and accusing them of doing something wrong.
Thanks

wow fuel leak? I had mine done recently too, and no change to mpg. 2 tanks should be enough to eliminate chance issues. My mpg has varied a bit from tank to tank over the life of the car, but we're talking a few mpg, not 9.

Mileage does drop in colder weather, but not that much.

I had mine done also. They messed up the fuel level sensor so it made my fuel gauge read incorrectly. It took me at least 14 trips out and back to that dealership for them to finally fix it and replace the entire fuel pump assembly again. I finally had to go to the dealer on an empty tank, or so I thought, and grab a mechanic and take him to the gas station and fill up the car, with him watching, for them to acknowledge that I had a problem. And since I didn't have an appointment that day, I had to make another round trip for them to finally fix it.
The way they treated me, and the things they did and said, kind of soured me on the whole Lexus customer experience, and that is why I started looking around at other cars, and I'll probably never own another Lexus.
So, that being said, I know things can go wrong with the pump recall. But how it could cause such a drop in mileage, I don't understand. But I do know when they did the recall, and my fuel gauge wasn't working, my "current average" fuel economy gauge wasn't working correctly either. As soon as they replaced the faulty pump and the faulty level sensor, the current average gauge started to work correctly again.
So............ if you're getting your drop in mileage from your dash board gauge readings, try doing a "paper calculation". (reset trip ODO, fill tank, drive, refill tank and divide gallons added into mileage driven.) You might have a fuel level sensor problem similar to mine.
