Default Prius battery life

Just read in Consumer Reports that Prius batteries are just starting to fail around 12 years - currently 5%. That should bode well for the HS. At the 5 year point, Prius batteries are less than 1% failure rate. This contrasts with the Civic Hybrid, where they are seeing 30% failure rates at only 4-5 years.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the traction battery has a 8 year guaranty. That should take us to around 2018-2019.

That is good to know that the battery would last so long. I know a few people that still have the 1st or 2nd gen prius on their 1st original set of battery.

I think there are shops out there that can service the battery at a fraction of the cost compared to the dealer.

As the car ages, i am concerned about other components going bad though (electric motor, inverter, etc). Spoke with a number of Hybrid specialists around LA and San Gabriel Valley and they are agree that the Toyota Hybrid system is pretty solid.
