AFEPower Intake for GX 460
I'm not one for normally changing my intake up but this was just posted on GXOR.

The devil is in the data ... assuming the data is legitimate to begin with. The graphs and footnotes depicted probably do not provide a complete picture ... meaning that this may not be an apples-to-apples comparison.
As an example, this "Cold" air-box may have been dyno'd at 40-degrees ambient, and the "Stock OEM" air-box may have been dyno'd at 95-degrees ambient. While this temperature difference would not explain the total difference depicted, cold(er) air is more dense ... so does provide a level of power boost in any setup or configuration. It does say "Cold" in the product description ... with the run dates being Oct-24th for the "Cold Box" setup and Aug-20th for the "OEM Box" setup ... so no false advertising here !#!
Also note the 275/70 tires on the "Stock Run" vs the (not noted) ... and assumed 265/60 stock tires on the "Cold Air Box" run ... a change in "gearing" between the runs.

Better how? It filters better? It keeps more dirt out of the engine......AND still allows more air to get to engine? If so, then they just found the holy grail of air filters!

My real point is that if it were this easy then Lexus would not have withheld ... so either the data is BS or there may actually be a slight performance improvement at the cost of emissions and/or fuel economy ... so at the end- of-the-day you will probably have only gained a cool logo under the hood (no pun intended).

While it may seem like a holy grail, the air filter is probably 3 times as much as the OEM filter. There are amazing engine oil filters made of glass media that I used to work with, but only the military could afford to use them.

Lots of easy things OEM's can do, bottom dollar however dictates most things.
I'll try and see if I can dyno this before and after, would be neat to validate the above dyno.

Is this any different than the K&N option? I had the high performance K&N on an Acura V6 and it was quite loud with acceleration so I would expect even more cabin noise in the GX V8 if that matters to you. Just a FYI.

Yes, I had a customer who was running their Pro Dry S and there was a small continuous reduction of external debris in the engine. Assuming the dyno is an accurate piece of data, then yes, more air, better filtration as the Pro Guard 7 is a more restrictive filter than the Dry S, it's their offroad filter.

"small continuous reduction of external debris..." how did this "customer" of yours measure this over time?

No, no selling, just giving out some small information. Oil analysis not available to the public. And upon further thought thanks to another poster, this CAI will probably add a good amount of noise to what is a quiet car. So you are right, trade offs for gains.
