L/Certified GX460 (engine oil concerns)
I am currently looking at a 2015 GX460 offered up for sell that is a CPO unit. Looking over the service history I see that during the 30K mile service when the oil was changed there was apparent damage to the o ring and it must have lost oil as a result. The vehicle was at 30,308 miles at the time of service and then the next report comes in at 30,329 miles indicating that they replaced the o ring and had to add 5.3qts to get it back to 8.2 total. The description states that the vehicle started to smoke and indicated no oil present in the engine. I do not know if they drove it back to the dealership or if they had it towed back. All that said, the vehicle today has about 42,000 miles on it and I am obviously concerned about the possible long term damage that may have happened here. Looking for others input on if I should move on from this one?

IMO: Run away from that one unless you got some unheard of deal and only plan to keep it during the CPO coverage period. I'd still pass on it myself.

Would it probably be ok long term, sure. Would I take a chance, even with CPO coverage, absolutely not.

Yea, I guess I was just wanting to hear this from everyone else as well. Even if they would tack on some extra years to the CPO warranty I would always wonder. Thanks guys.

Never in a million years should you take a gamble like that! You already know the history. If the dealer threw in a new short block I might be tempted. The blessing is you found a major issue. Sounds like damage did occur no telling how much? Filling it up with fresh oil might get it to go a little further down the road. Low miles doesn’t mean anything on that particular rig. I would still take a vehicle with 80,000 to 100,000 miles over that particular vehicle without a back story.
