Here is a Blackstone report showing moly levels in the Mazda oil from my CX-5. 596 versus 178 average.
EDIT: Here is a report on another site of someone using Amsoil 0W-30 for moly comparison. I do have Amsoil 0W-20 for this next oil change. Never had a vehicle take so much oil before... although nothing in comparison to a big block diesel.
Your GX is diluting the oil with fuel, way too much, the fuel is washing up some of the piston alloy's and causing needless wear. Use a WIX XP oil filter and use either BioSyn PCMO or M1 EP and get your air filters changed every 10-15K. No way you should have that much insolubles for this engine.
The toyota oil basically can't handle the fuels aromatics. That's why you're having your wear issues.
let me know how it goes with this one. I'm not due an oil change for another 5000 but I would give that a shot if it makes a difference. My experience so far with a high compression engine is that it idles a lot smoother and runs cooler. Fuel efficiency...not really expecting more... but for the gx it would be nice. Currently with my wife doing all the driving during the week it is averaging a .... wait for it.... 15mpg. No highway at all Monday through Friday.

a high moly oil won't make a difference on that engine. Your engines are blowing fuel right past the rings. You need an oil that can address the fuels aromatics or close that ring seal. Otherwise you're GX's will continue to take poundings on the internals.

Do you consider the oils you have listed above superior or equal to the Amsoil I currently have? I've had good luck with my Amsoil for the last 15-20 years.
Well that's a tough question. RLI's oil will smoke Amsoil, performance and cost wise is cheaper. M1EP is better suited in this engine that the Amsoil, although the SS is very good stuff to begin with.
If you're having issues with Amsoil SS, the only oil that will outperform it is RLI's BioSyn.
I'm going to be doing heavily discounted UOA soon, I will have a post out tonight.
Here is a 10,000 mile oil sample with 115,000 on the odo. Could have gone much further, some poor lab work however caused me to prematurely dump the oil.
This is with Amsoil SS and a Purolator oil filter. I will have another sample shortly with their Boss version. Air filter is the Purolator, albeit may consider trying a cheaper filter from Amazon as I replace these every 10K. This was on mostly E50-60 fill ups. At the current moment, I can not justify the premium fuel cost to show some other things. In this period I also hauled a 6,000lb trailer for 2,500 miles or so.
I do have the E85 cleanse sample that shows how much crap was cleaned out of the engine if anyone is interested. Previous owner was a Nestle executive who only used premium grades.
With the discussion going on with 10,000 miles oil changes and what weight of oil to use, do any members have a UOA (used oil analysis) for their GX with the oil flavor of their choosing ??
This is a very specialized group of owners on this forum and would be good to maybe start something.
I have a few but they are of some very low mileage runs and nothing for longer.
I'm gonna do Blackstone on the amsoil that's been in our GX since 22500 at 5k, 7.5k and 10k... will post results when we reach these mileage milestones
Looks like I'm not the only one with fuel dilution issues on the 4.6L engine.
I use Oil Analyzers (Polaris) for my UOA and my fuel dilution numbers come back at 2%. Still in the green, but it is bringing the viscosity down a bit. Blackstone is good, but I don't like how don't have an accurate way to measure fuel dilution like Polaris does.
I'm gonna try Mobil1 EP cause it is more readily available at Walmart and $40 cheaper than Amsoil SS... I'm gonna let the UOA numbers bear out if it makes a difference.... unlikely since I'm planning 5,000 OCI.
