I Locked My Electronic Key In My Truck Today... WTF!!!
When I have my truck washed I leave the electronic key in the cupholder and typically forget about it until I try to lock the truck later in the day. The truck will not let me lock it so no problem, I retrieve the key and carry on.
I went to the car wash today and as usual left the key in the cupholder. I went to Lowes to do some shopping and when I came back out to my truck I could not enter it.
I looked in the window and could see the electronic key sitting in the cupholder. I couldn't come up with a way to get into the truck so I had to call a locksmith.
The locksmith was concerned that he would not be able to get into the truck because it will protect itself if unlocked from the inside by locking itself back.
With several attempts at the door lock he finally went for the remote and was able to press the unlock button. I asked him what the next step would be. He said he would have to cut a new metal key to enter the truck for $400.
When I got home I did some testing and I am able to sit in the truck and lock it with the electronic key in my hand. I can open the glass hatch on the back and lock it as well. The only time I get the long beep is if I have a door open.
I had the battery on the truck changed last week so this is the only explanation I can come up with. The electronic key battery was changed six months ago and I changed it again during my testing and I disconnected the truck battery for a few minutes with no difference. I called Lexus service department and of course could not get an answer. I was informed changing the truck battery should make no difference.
I have complained on this forum about my frustrations with locking the door while exiting and getting the long beep...I guess the Lexus gods have cursed me

I noticed another dude in the parking lot pacing around his Toyota, I asked him if he was locked out and he said yes.we used the same locksmith and this is the same procedure that was used on his Toyota but the locksmith got into the Toyota within seconds and the Lexus took about 20 minutes.
He charged the Toyota guy $95 and charged me $145

It would be cool if we could unlock our truck using voice recognition or use an app from our phones.
Are you parked next to a shopping cart space?! Maybe it's just my paranoia that makes me avoid those spaces after a runaway cart dinged my dually.

I've never had that happen with my 2010 or 2014 GX, it won't let me lock the vehicle with the key inside the vehicle. I'm wondering if the battery in your remote is weak? I've also never had this happen in my LS 460.
Very strange!

Same thing happened to my wife's BMW X5, never could figure out how it locked with the key inside as I could not replicate it. Luckily BMW has the remote unlock standard so a quick call to the support number had the car unlocked.

2 peoples with Toyota products locked out in the same parking lot!?! Very strange.
So when you parked the car to go in, you touched the handle to lock it thinking the key was in your pocket and it beeped and locked? I've never had that happen to me, and it is even more unusual that another person had the same thing happen there. Is the store next to some power transfer station or radio tower?

The ONLY way I can lock the car with the keyfob INSIDE the car is to use another keyfob. This is strange.
Ouch...$145...may be Lexus can reimburse that for the faulty design.

I was at a golf course one time. Took my bag out, put my keys in the bag. Needed to go pay, so I put my clubs back in the trunk and closed the trunk. Needless to say I was feeling stupid.
However, all I did was press the unlock button by the license plate holder....voila...unlocked.
This was on my 2008 GS.
Any other time that I have tried to lock my keys in the car, it will not let me.

I use the lock button on the inside of the door while exiting.

Did I cause this problem ???
After posting this I remembered that I wired a dash camera into the overhead console. The camera stopped working 4-6 weeks ago so I tried to diagnose the problem. I apparently shorted out the switched positive wire in the process and lost power to it. The wire went to a small box that has a sticker on it "Sliding Roof Drive"
I tested the sun roof and everything works fine so I decided to wait and see if something comes up later.
I tried to use my remote start recently and it no longer works. I get the flashing lights, but it wont start and now I have this problem.
I don't know why the roof drive would be related to this problem. The wire is 12v SWITCHED, wouldn't the electronic key sensor be a constant voltage?
I pulled every fuse today with no luck. We only have 2 fuse boxes right?
Oh well, I guess its time to visit a specialist.

I'm thinking that it has something to do with the wiring of the dash cam/wire short. I hate wiring so I don't have any advice for you other than to have someone knowledgeable look at it.
