Default Headlight Question

Gentlemen- I had a long 7 hour drive yesterday up to the mountains, and when I shut the GX off and walked past the headlights, I heard a high pitched continuous whine, like a small motor running from both headlights. I have a base 2010 with the headlights that turn with the steering, and I drive with the headlights on on the highway. (I think they are HID, but not sure- they are awesome headlights)
When I went back to the cabin and I shut the lights off, the sound stopped. It is much more quiet here in the mountains than where I live in the city, and I have never noticed this before. I wanted to see if anyone knew what this was?
Happy Thanksgiving all!

It's normal, all HIDs do this. Go back to enjoying the mountains.

Only Denso Ballasts? If you say so.

Also have a 2010 and have noticed a louder noise from the headlights. The passenger headlight does not come on and I will have to take it to the dealership.

Let us know the outcome, and if it is covered by the warranty.
Thanks

My 2014 with LED headlights makes this whining/whirring noise after engine stop too. The lights stay on for about 30 sec then shut off automatically and the noise stops.

You can change how long they stay on once you turn the vehicle off thought the customization / Lighting screen.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Haven't had much time/chance to play around with it all.

I'm guessing the whining / whirring sound you are hearing from the LED headlights is the fan on the back of the heat sink. I put LED's in my 2013 GX fogs and drl / high beams and they have temperature sensitive fans I can hear after shutoff when warm outside.

Just got a 14 today. Took it for a test drive tonight and am very disappointed with the headlights. The lows (LED, I think) have a gap in the middle on the road ahead and the left side projects lower than the right side which is way too low already, in my opinion. Then there are the brights. Yellow light in comparison with the lows which I don't like. I will probably change the bulbs in these. Not sure yet if I can adjust the lows. How are your lights, in comparison?

Lexus tends to have their cars from the factory come with low aiming headlights. You can adjust them yourself if you look in the manual, or have the dealer do it for you at a premium. The driver-side headlight should always be a bit lower than the passenger-side due to the light hitting oncoming traffic.
