I have a 2016 GX Luxury and a weird issue started with the park assist system. The backup alert started alarming and nothing is behind the suv. I did the standard clean and inspect the sensors and there are no chips/marks. I happened to change the sensor sensitivity to short in the Lexus park assist screen and the system works as it should. I change it back to long sensitivity and the alarm starts. This is repeatable. As a last resort I disconnected the
battery and there is no change.
Has anyone ever experienced this? The solution? Thank you very much.
You indicated that you can re-produce the problem by change the sensitivity on the setup menu, is the alarm isolated one part of the area, either corner sensors or center sensors, or it indicates all of the sensors? If the issue isolated at one area, you may have a defect sensor, if it indicates for all the sensors, you will need to take to the dealer for further diagnosis for ECU if it was the communication issue or a defect ECU.
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, the display only shows bars across the rear and not individual zones for the four sensors. I retested the system in short range and it works flawlessly.
Do you know if there is a separate processing unit or the ECU handles it directly? To this point I have not found prints online.

If display a bar across the rear, that means the two in the middle were malfunction, the corner ones will displayed as quarter circler bars. Don’t think there is a separate ECU just for the sensors, it is part of body ECU if I am not mistaken.
Thank you for all the information. The equally weird solution was "nothing". I was going to try to check the sensors individually and could not reproduce the problem. The system is acting as it should in short and long sensing mode and I did nothing (no additional cleaning, no moving wires around, didn't even touch a sensor, etc.). The system has continued to function fine over the past several days.
I do have a question about the sensor display. I described the display as bars but my description was probably not completely accurate. I attached a pic of what I see when the sensors are tripped on the dashboard. The multimedia display only shows the backup camera when it is in reverse. The pic shows the full amount of bars displayed and number of the four bars changes the closer/farther you are from the object. There are no corner sensors displays (which I do have in my RX).
Can I determine anything from the display with respect to any individual sensor?
